Tourism Statistics, II. Quarter: April-June 2024
Tourism revenues increased by 11.8% compared to the same quarter last year
In the II. quarter, which consists of April, May, and June, tourism revenues increased by 11.8% compared to the same quarter of the previous year, reaching 14 billion 875 million 518 thousand dollars. 15.9% of tourism revenues were generated from foreign residents visiting our country.
Visitors organized their trips either personally or as package tours. In this quarter, personal expenses accounted for 10 billion 330 million 968 thousand dollars, while package tour expenses amounted to 4 billion 544 million 550 thousand dollars.
The number of visitors increased by 15% compared to the same quarter last year
The number of visitors leaving our country in the II. quarter of 2024 increased by 15% compared to the same quarter of the previous year, reaching 16 million 97 thousand 884 people. 14.9% of the visitors, or 2 million 405 thousand 675 people, were citizens residing abroad.
In this quarter, the average expenditure per night for visitors leaving our country was 101 dollars. The average expenditure per night for citizens residing abroad was 69 dollars.
In this quarter, the share of package tour expenses in tourism revenue was 30.6%, the share of food and beverage expenses was 18.5%, and the share of international transportation expenses was 12.2%. Compared to the same period last year, package tour expenses increased by 32.5%, food and beverage expenses by 10.6%, and international transportation expenses by 1.9%.
Visitors arrived primarily for "sightseeing, entertainment, sports, and cultural activities" at a rate of 68.1%.
In second place was "visiting relatives and friends" at 19.1%, followed by "shopping" at 5.4%. Citizens residing abroad also came to our country mainly for "visiting relatives and friends," accounting for 66.5%.
Tourism expenditure decreased by 3.9% compared to the same quarter of last year.

The tourism expenditure, which consists of the spending of our citizens residing in Turkey who visit other countries, decreased by 3.9% compared to the same quarter of the previous year, amounting to 1 billion 955 million 807 thousand dollars. Of this, 1 billion 610 million 431 thousand dollars were personal expenditures, and 345 million 377 thousand dollars were package tour expenditures.

The number of citizens visiting abroad increased by 3% compared to the II quarter of 2023.

In this quarter, the number of citizens visiting abroad rose by 3% compared to the same quarter of the previous year, reaching 2 million 963 thousand 788 people. The average expenditure per person was recorded as 660 dollars.
